What causes mould to grow?

Mould thrives in damp areas where there is elevated moisture or humidity. Common places mould is found are washrooms, kitchens, basements, basements, crawl spaces, attics, etc. Mould feeds off materials such as drywall, carpet wood flooring and walls. We have even seen mould flourish on non-porous materials such as vinyl or plastic.

What are the effects of mould?

Health & safety experts have concluded that mould often causes allergic reactions including congestion, sore throat, cough, asthma, skin irritations and, in some cases, respiratory disease. Although more severe effects such as pregnancy difficulties, immune disorders, cancer, and pulmonary fibrosis are less common, they are all possible effects of Hazard Class A toxins. People over the age of 50, under the age of 5 or those who suffer from any autoimmune disease are the most susceptible to harmful mould effects.

How do you know if you have mould?

Mould often appears green, black, white, grey, or yellow and often has a strong, musty odour, that usually gets stronger as the mould spreads and may have a fuzzy or velvety texture. We use non-toxic antimicrobial products and cutting-edge equipment to treat the floors, walls, heating and air conditioning vents and ducts, ceilings and the air. We install air scrubbers and negative air systems to clean or scrub the air. First and foremost, we seal and contain any area where mould is found to prevent further cross-contamination of other parts of the property. If you are concerned about mould in your home or office, the best action plan is to call Metro Flood Services now and have a certified technician conduct your mould inspection.
